Oadby and Wigston Borough Council is currently recruiting for a Planning Officer to work in the Planning, Development and Regeneration service. This is a unique role that will give the successful candidate the opportunity to manage a caseload across both Planning Policy and Planning Control.
 
The Planning Policy duties linked to the role include assisting in the preparation of the Council’s Local Plan and related strategies and guidance, writing reports and attending meetings of Place Shaping Member Working Group, undertaking site visits and carrying out surveys. The role will also involve the monitoring of Section 106 Agreements, planning policy, housing and employment land as well as assisting with the publicity of and consultation on the Borough Council’s proposals.
 
The Planning Control duties linked to the role include providing pre-application advice, processing planning applications from validation to determination, preparing recommendations and reports for Development Control Committee and advising stakeholders in relation to planning matters. With support from more senior members of the team the post holder will also work with developers and other applicants in pursuit of development applications and Section 106 agreements.
  
The successful candidate will have a Degree, Post-Graduate Diploma or Masters degree in a RTPI accredited planning course. You will have knowledge of current national planning policy and guidance, procedures and good practice. You will be able to interpret planning legislation and procedures and explain these in a clear and concise way. The role will work across two teams so it is important that the post holder has excellent communication skills and is able to prioritise their workload in order to meet deadlines. The ideal candidate will be a strong team-player as well as capable of working on their own initiative.
  
You should hold a full driving license and have access to your own vehicle.
