This position is Politically Restricted post. The starting salary is £49,702 (Level One) rising to £51,733 (Level Two) on the first year anniversary, subject to satisfactory completion of a probation period (pro rata for part time workers).
 
We are looking for an enthusiastic individual to lead an effective Executive and Majority Group service and to provide direct support to the Leader of the Council. The Executive and Majority Group team provides support to the Leader, ten Portfolio Holders and a Labour Group comprising of 50 councillors. You will be required to lead on prominent policy and project work and have an understanding of the priorities of the Leader and the Executive.
 
ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • To develop, lead and manage the Executive and Majority Group Support team, have an understanding and oversight of the priorities they support, and of the Leader and Executive support needs.
  • To be responsible for advising the Leader on all national policy and legislation pertinent to Local Authority.
  • To lead, co-ordinate and provide effective support to the Leader for regular and other key high level meetings, including developing, negotiating and managing a forward plan, and ensuring outcomes and actions are communicated and implemented.
  • To manage the interface between the Leader, Executive and external agencies, providing relevant briefings and support, or acting on their behalf as required, ensuring high quality corporate standards and the council’s reputation are maintained.
  • To source relevant and high quality advice, information, briefings and reports from colleagues and/or external partners in a format that helps the Leader to make informed robust strategic decisions, and at times to make decisions on their behalf, which may have a financial, political or reputational impact on the council.
  • To work on behalf of the Leader and with the Communications & Marketing Team, to build and maintain a strong media presence and good reputation for the Council, including the use of social media if appropriate.
