Leicestershire Vision Support Service is looking for an enthusiastic and committed person to support the work of the Vision Support Service which is made up of a team of Qualified Teachers of the Visually Impaired (QTVI) Specialist VI practitioner and Keyboard and Assisted Technology Practitioners and Technicians. You will have experience of working with the 5-16 age range in educational settings. Knowledge of additional/complex needs would be an advantage. The post would be peripatetic and involve assessing readiness for and providing tuition in touch typing and associated shortcuts and assistive technology (magnification and text to speech) and to assess for the eDCC award scheme. You may be asked to support the introduction of alternative access means for using equipment (braille devices) in support of the curriculum. Much of this role would be lone working but we are a supportive team and there would be lots of contact.
This is a role which is ever evolving as new equipment becomes available and you will need to be flexible and willing to maintain a high standard with relation to your working knowledge of assistive technology packages as well as undertaking training on the different hardware and software as used by the Vision Support Team.
We would provide you with a full induction period including training and shadowing of other team members during the first term and ongoing mentoring support and would expect the person appointed to complete the Online Partners in Learning – https://viewweb.org.uk/training/understanding-visual-impairment-in-children-and-young-people/ and the UEB Online braille for sighted readers course. https://uebonline.org/
