Autism Outreach Team - Specialist Teacher

Salary:MPS5 - UPS3 SEN 2 - Pro-Rata

Part-Time -19.5 hrs (3 days)


To have caseload responsibility for a number of pupils with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities
To support families, settings, schools and FE colleges to include and make provision for children and young people  with SEND

  • Degree level qualification
  • Qualified Teacher Status with DfE number.
  • Evidence of further training and development
  • Appropriate specialist qualification or achievement  of this within three years of taking up post 
  • Experience of  working directly with pupils  with Special Educational  Needs and Disabilities to improve outcomes and support inclusion
  • Experience of involvement in team development  and review
  • Experience of working in partnership with settings, schools, other support services, statutory and voluntary agencies to improve outcomes for pupils with SEND
  • Knowledge of the local authority's statutory duties
  • Knowleddge of the local with regard to children and with regard to children and young people with SEND 
  • Knowledge of effective teaching and learning assessment, strategies and  resources  to support the attainment  and inclusion of pupils with SEND
  • Knowledge partnership working and  an understanding  of the roles various of professionals on a multi-agency basis 
  • The ability to prioritise and respond positively to potentially stressful and/or challenging situations.
  • Ability to adapt skills to a variety of settings and to different age and ability groups.
  • Ability to manage own caseload effectively.
  • An ability to establish effective working relationships within a range of educational settings.
  • The ability to challenge practice both within and outside the Specialist Teaching Service in order to enhance the quality of provision for children with SEN
  • Actively demonstrating the values of the authority:  Being positive; The desire to achieve results: Flexibility; Cooperation:  Speaking Up.
  • A commitment to improving outcomes for children and young people.
  • Adaptable to change and showing potential to develop further professionally.
  • Ability to work under pressure, effective time management.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills – able to relate positively to students, parents and other professionals and establish effective working relationships within a range of educational settings
  • Compliance with teaching standards
  • Willing to work duty systems and to work outside normal hours as and when required.
  • Ability to travel to temporary bases, such as schools, homes, Touch-down bases etc.
