An exciting opportunity to assist the Technical Lead in the development of policies and strategies with the following key objectives:

  • To contribute to the implementation of the duties placed upon Nottingham City Council by the Flood and Water Management Act 2010, the Flood Risk Regulations 2009 and the Land Drainage Act 1991. 
  • To foster and maintain relationships and partnerships with other key organisations involved in flood risk management.
  • To reduce the risk of flooding to residents of the City by ensuring the effective maintenance and inspection of Ordinary Watercourses and management of the City Council owned reservoirs.
  • To assist with the delivery and maintenance of the Local Flood Risk Management Strategy and Surface Water Management Plan.
  • To collate and maintain a register of all drainage assets throughout the City including those assets owned by third parties.
  • To provide a professional drainage consultancy service including undertaking site investigations, feasibility and options appraisals, engineering design and preparation of contract documentation, supervision of construction work and controlling scheme expenditure.
  • To prepare funding bids for flood risk management activities.
  • To support the Lead Local Flood Authority’s statutory consultee role for sustainable drainage, respond to consultations on planning applications and provide advice to the planning authority and developers regarding the flood risk associated with new developments.
  • To liaise with the emergency planners and LRF, and contribute to effective management should a major flooding event occur.
  • To support schemes that manage flood risk and deliver multiple objectives for the Council and citizens, such as regeneration and open space improvements.
  • To support proactive engagement with communities and citizens at risk of flooding to promote improved resilience and self-help measures.
  • Work with partners and communities to investigate flood incidents.

 

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS: 
  • Has experience of actively engaging with all key players and stakeholders in flood risk management
  • Has the ability to develop innovative and creative solutions to meet service priorities and address flooding problem sites.
  • Ability to work on own initiative, to review, identify and implement constructive change for service delivery.
  • Has experience of handling conflict and managing sensitive issues to achieve positive outcomes
