Virtual School Head and Service Manager for the Virtual School (Education of Children in Care Service)

Leicestershire Virtual School (VS) supports our looked-after children and care leavers to access high quality education in order to develop the skills that enable them to become confident individuals with the skills to lead independent and fulfilling adult lives. We are firmly focused on raising aspirations and narrowing attainment and progress gaps to improve education outcomes and life chances.

We wish to appoint a full-time, permanent, full-time Virtual School Head (VSH) to lead our well-established caring, supportive, committed and attachment and trauma-informed team in delivering positive educational outcomes for looked-after and previously looked-after children.

This is a key strategic role that requires an understanding of the barriers faced by children in care and care leavers. You will have an understanding of attachment theory and trauma-informed practice and a knowledge and understanding of DfE statutory guidance as it relates to the education of looked-after children and previously looked-after children.

You will have experience and confidence in both developing and challenging schools’ policies and practices, be passionate about advocating on behalf of children in care in order to promote and support the best possible outcomes for them. You will be efficient and organised, confident in communicating and keen to bring innovation and creativity that deliver service improvements.

Leicestershire Children and Family Services has a flexible working approach, meaning you will be working both in County Hall and from home, and attend meetings in schools or other venues around the county or beyond.
