Leicestershire Virtual School supports our looked-after children and care leavers to access high quality education. We are firmly focused on raising aspirations and narrowing attainment and progress gaps to improve education outcomes and life chances.

We wish to appoint a 0.4 FTE  to join our friendly and supportive team, working collaboratively with a range of partners and agencies, including social workers, education settings and foster carers. You will hold a caseload of looked-after children and, supported by a casework officer ensure good quality planning leading to positive educational outcomes. You will play an active role in delivering high quality training to a variety of stakeholders and take on a supervisory role of a casework officer.

Understanding the barriers faced by children in care and care leavers is key to successful delivery of these duties. You will have an understanding of attachment theory and trauma-informed practice and a knowledge and understanding of DfE statutory guidance as it relates to the education of looked-after children and previously looked-after children and be able to advise schools/colleges, settings and key professionals on strategies that address emerging educational and behavioural issues and lead to improved outcomes for Leicestershire children in care and/or care leavers and previously looked after children resident in Leicestershire.

You will be confident at communicating effectively and accurately both in writing and orally, chairing and attending internal or external meetings delivered online or face to face. You will undertake a lead role within the team, be efficient and organised, and keen to bring innovation and creativity to deliver service improvements. You must be able to work on your own initiative, but with the support from our caring, supportive, committed and attachment and trauma-informed team.

The Virtual School has a flexible working approach, meaning you will either be working in County Hall, from home or occasionally attending meetings in schools around the county or beyond.

You will be provided with appropriate IT hardware with which to work from home, but you are expected to have access to a secure and reliable broadband connection.
