Leadership Spine – Points 5-9

The post offers an exceptional opportunity for an experienced practitioner, with a proven record of academic success, who is looking for a new challenge in an evolving Academy focused on ensuring that all students achieve or exceed their potential.

Ashby School is a thriving, successful and over-subscribed 14-19 Academy with 1,600 students on roll including 600 post-16. Conveniently located close to the M42 and M1, within easy reach of several areas of outstanding natural beauty and with the national forest on the doorstep, the school is set in its own attractive grounds in the expanding market town of Ashby-de-la-Zouch, Leicestershire.

We are seeking to appoint an experienced, enthusiastic and determined teacher of English to add pedagogic capacity to our faulty leadership team.  We want someone with a passion for their subject, the ability to enthuse and engage students and the dedication, commitment and strategies to raise attainment at Key Stage 4, Key Stage 5 and, from autumn 2022, Key Stage 3.  We are also interested in utilising this opportunity to promote literacy and oracy as core components in our Key Stage 3 and 4 vision.  Our lead practitioners work with a dedicated timetable allowance within our Teaching and Learning team to support teachers across our school to share and raise our students’ learning experience.  They also actively contribute to our Continuing Professional Development and our on-going engagement in training the professionals of the future.  For the right candidate, the opportunity to extend this work across our hub of local secondary schools within the LiFE multi-academy trust may also be available.

Through the study of a wide range of texts and genres that enthuse, we aim to excite and inspire creativity and to instil a life-long love of both reading and writing in our students. Because literature is a gateway to other cultures, exploration of the written word encourages students to appreciate, understand, reflect and question the perceptions of others, developing empathy and compassion, while deepening their awareness of the issues affecting modern society.   We not only place value on students evaluating writers’ craft and authorial intent, inviting students to flourish as mature, critical thinkers, but also on their ability to articulate ideas fluently and precisely.  We believe that anything is truly possible for the future of our students when they are armed with the necessary tools to interpret, analyse and communicate with confidence.

We are proud of the work we do at Ashby School: if you are passionate about teaching and learning, share our enthusiasm for English and are seeking to develop your practice in a supportive and dynamic faculty, we would be delighted to hear from you.

Further information is available on the school website: www.ashbyschool.org.uk

Ashby School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of all of its students and expects all staff to share this commitment.  The successful applicant will be subject to enhanced clearance by the Disclosure and Barring Service and pre-employment checks.

Closing date for applications is Thursday 19th May at 9.00am
Interviews will be held during the following week
