Career Grade 8 to 10 (£22,185 to £32,241 per annum, depending on experience)
    
An exciting opportunity has arisen to join a dynamic group of environmental professionals committed to supporting the council’s response to the climate emergency. 
     
You will be working within the Carbon Reduction Team to support the delivery of the Council’s commitments and strategic outcomes in respect of climate change and the environment. This is a key opportunity to directly influence and contribute to the Council’s own ambition to become a net zero local authority, for its own operations by 2030 and work with Leicestershire businesses, partners and communities to achieve net zero emissions for the county by 2045.
     
The Carbon Reduction Officer will:
  • Assist with the development and delivery of carbon reduction projects and initiatives
  • Contribute to the development and management of net zero strategies, policies and plans through research and sound knowledge of national policy and legislation
  • Maintain effective partnerships and working relationships with statutory, voluntary, private agencies and communities
  • Participate in cross-departmental project teams as required to deliver key carbon savings
  • Support the Senior Carbon Reduction Officer in the day to day activities to help deliver key Council commitments
   
This is a career graded position from grade 8 to grade 10. A career graded scheme provides a framework for employees to develop their skills, knowledge and experience within the role.

The successful candidate will be appointed to the position at the grade suited to the knowledge, experience, skills and competencies demonstrated through the application and interview process.
     
The Carbon Reduction Officer will be able to progress through the grades by demonstrating an increasing level of skill, ability and experience of delivering the key duties and responsibilities of the role, as outlined in the Progression Plan. 
     
We are looking for someone with:
  • A relevant degree or equivalent demonstrable work experience in a relevant environmental area (all grades).
  • Knowledge of climate change, carbon and environmental management, as well as net zero legislation, policies and procedures (all grades).
  • The ability to assist with identifying opportunities and the development of projects that will contribute to a net zero emission future (all grades).
  • Good communication skills and the ability to work co-operatively with colleagues and partner organisations (all grades).
  • Experience in delivery of projects, contributing to strategies and policies, negotiation and facilitation with stakeholders, writing technical and non-technical reports and using IT systems to monitor and report information (Grade 9 & 10).
