JOB PURPOSE:
To provide direct high quality integrated family support and childcare services to children and young people) as part of a family support/safeguarding plan, including kinship and foster carers, care leavers and Unaccompanied Asylum Seeking Children where appropriate
ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS:
- NVQ level 3 in childcare qualification (NNEB/NVQ3) or equivalent
- Previous experience of caring for children or young people in a personal, voluntary or statutory capacity or experience of working to protect and improve the life changes of children or young people
- Experience in a social care setting
- Experience of working with service users from different cultural backgrounds
- Basic Knowledge of child development
- An understanding of the rights of service users
- Understanding of social and environmental factors that have an effect on vulnerable, children, young people and families
- Written skills sufficient to produce clear and accurate records
- Verbal and interpersonal skills to communicate clearly with children, young people, families, colleagues and professionals
- Able to encourage independence
- Ability to work in a multi-agency context
- Ability to understand and carry out Departmental instructions and procedures
- Ability to work on own initiative as well as part of a team
- Ability to advise and support families and young people of domestic and personal care tasks
- Able to apply principles of equal opportunities in practice
- Able to use information technology applications e.g. Microsoft Outlook, Word and database applications as relevant to the department
- Ability to work unsociable and flexible hours (note – this would be a change to working arrangements for some existing TSWs and would not be achievable by all of them)
- Able to travel to designated locations
- Current driving licence and access to a car
- Willing to undertake further training, attend meetings and supervision
