We are looking for new tutors to teach British Sign Language and d/Deaf awareness sessions at taster, beginner and intermediate levels in venues around the county, particularly at Melton and Market Harborough. Most courses are weekdays, in the evenings but some are daytime too. Teaching minimum 2 hours per week term-time but there will be opportunities to work more courses depending on learner numbers. (Courses run (or not) based on learner numbers)    
We would like tutors to inspire, motivate and raise the aspirations of learners through their enthusiasm and knowledge. You need to be able to use ICT regularly for communication and for teaching preparation and delivery. You must have an understanding of how to use ICT to support outstanding teaching and learning. You must be able to complete all course paperwork and record keeping (some online) in accordance with quality assurance policies. You must be able to carry out initial and formative assessment to identify levels and learning goals and complete learner records of progress. You must be able to use a variety of relevant and innovative teaching methods to support differentiation including the use of ICT. You should be able to create a learning environment where learners can reach their full potential. You must be able to promote the benefits of using technology to your learners, including the use of class pages on Moodle (our online learning platform) to support work outside the classroom.    
You will be required to attend regular CPD meetings to develop skills and share good practice.       
We would prefer tutors to be native BSL users, and you should have a Level 3 BSL qualification as well as a teaching qualification.

  • A nationally approved teaching qualification, preferably to teach adults
  • The British Sign Language subject specialism / Level 3 BSL or equivalent
  • Recent experience of teaching British Sign Language at a variety of levels
  • Ability to use relevant teaching materials and techniques to support learning, including the use of e-learning technology
  • Must have Level 2 maths, English and Level 2 ICT or equivalent skills
  • Ability to use ICT for professional communications and also to use as a teaching approach
  • Knowledge of the Professional Teaching and Learning Standards and their application, in order to deliver outstanding teaching and learning
  • Must be flexible to travel to different centres around the county during the daytime or in the evening as required
