JOB PURPOSE:
  • To provide a package of Portage home visits to very young children and their parents/carers.
  • To keep records as required by the Portage Manager.
  • To promote the education and development of children under 5 years with special educational needs
  • To implement the programme of support devised by the specialist SEND advisor
  
ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS:
 
  • Training on a course for Portage Home Visitors recognised by the National Portage Association or willingness to undertake the above training
  • Level 3 in childcare or equivalent 
  • Substantial experience with working families and children who have SEND Experience of collaborative working within a partnership context with external agencies to enhance SEND
  • Experience of having worked with children under 5 
  • Knowledge of child development up to the age of 5
  • Knowledge of a range of special educational needs 
  • Knowledge of the SEND code of practice and the Early Years Foundation Stage 
  • Good personal organisational skills e.g. time management 
  • Ability to relate to parents/carers who may be under considerable stress
  • The ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing, coupled with good listening skills
  • Evidence of being able to work collaboratively within a team with the ability to generate enthusiasm
  • The ability to take responsibility for meeting deadlines adjusting tasks and priorities as situations demand
  • A flexible approach to working, including out of-hours, and an ability and willingness to travel to various locations
  • An understanding of, and commitment to, Equality and Diversity and the ability to apply this to strategic work and day-to-day situations
  • Must be able to perform all duties and tasks with reasonable adjustment, where appropriate, in accordance with the provisions of the Equality Act 2010
