The Vision Support Service has an exciting and interesting opportunity for an enthusiastic and committed Qualified Teacher of the Visually Impaired (QTVI).  The post has arisen due to retirement of the previous post holder and involves working with families, schools, and early years settings across Leicestershire to support positive outcomes for visually impaired children and young people aged 0-25.   We welcome applications from those holding the Mandatory Qualification for Teachers of Children and Young People with Visual Impairments or suitable equivalent.

The service is made up of a team of Qualified Teachers of the Visually Impaired, Keyboard and Assistive Technology Tutors and Technicians. The post would involve providing support and advice to visually impaired children and young people and their families, across Leicestershire in home, early years and school settings (specific roles dependent on experience). The post will also involve the active teaching of braille.   The post holder will have a strong commitment to empower and build capacity within schools and settings to allow them to meet the needs of visually impaired children and young people.  The team promote professional developments and hope to offer career progression opportunities.
  • Qualified Teacher Status and additional mandatory qualification in vision impairment.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills – able to relate positively to students, parents and other professionals and establish effective working relationships within a range of educational settings
  • Understanding and experience of meeting the needs of children with vision Impairment in pre-school/School/College settings
  • An understanding of, and commitment to, Equal Opportunities and Safeguarding Children and the ability to apply this to strategic work and day-to-day situations
  • Access to a vehicle and ability to travel to families and children across the County.
Shortlisting will take place on 25th October.  Interviews will be held on the 27th October.
