Nottingham is growing fast and is the focus of significant new development, and are entering a new progressive era, as we shortly expect to begin working with the Building Safety Regulator to provide Building Control services for tall residential buildings.  To help facilitate this growth, we are looking for a motivated and committed person to work within a busy team of Building Control Surveyors.  This person must possess excellent communication skills and pro-active problem solving abilities to suit a core city environment.  Nottingham City Council provides opportunity to work flexibly from home and the office to suit your work life balance and the needs of the service, and Nottingham is a compact area, so travel for work purposes is convenient.  You can also benefit from the Local Government Pension Scheme.
To join our successful team you should be an enthusiastic Building Control Surveyor with experience of the Building Control function, including:
  • Checking plans and details in relation to proposed building work, for compliance with the Building Regulations and associated legislation within statutory time periods, and checking Building Notices for compliance with the Building Regulations.
  • Inspecting building work on site to ascertain compliance with the Building Regulations and the Council’s Building Control policy.
  • The timely maintenance of full, accurate and complete records.
  • Investigating breaches of the Building Regulations and associated legislation and to take appropriate action following Council policy including collating evidence, preparing reports and providing evidence in court as necessary.
  • Your workload would not include dangerous structures.
Ideally, the successful candidate would hold a recognised construction qualification, be working towards, or have membership of a professional body such as the RICS, CABE or CIOB.  Alternatively, you will have significant experience in a relevant building profession that would enable you to undertake these duties with limited guidance and training.
