My wife and I live in our own home in the village of Burbage, Nr Hinckley with two teenage children. We are looking for a caring individual to work as a personal assistant to provide support to my wife at weekends to enable family members to engage in external elite sporting activities and to support the general wellbeing of the family.
Ideally, we would like 1 person to complete continuous caring within the hours 06.30am - 19.00pm on both Saturday & Sundays. This will ensure that all my wife's care needs are covered, there is an option for 2 carers however not at the same time or the same day effectively one carer completing Saturday and one carer completing Sunday again through the hours of 06.30am - 19.00pm this would then provide cover for both sickness and holiday between the two if planned, communicated and agreed by all parties. The timings are structured around the needs of my wife and the fact that she cannot be left unsupervised due to the nature of her illness and care needs and ensures there is an minimal overlap at both the start and end of each day between that of the carer and myself/family members.
The successful applicants time with my wife would commence at 06.30am helping her to get up in the morning, feeding a pre prepared breakfast, showering, feeding a pre prepared lunch, feeding a pre prepared evening meal, following pre prepared medication both AM and PM, before preparing my wife for bed 3/4 an hour before finishing time to ensure she is fully relaxed and asleep in line with her medication and care needs. My wife maintains the ability to be self-aware and relies on routine and familiarity which is why it's essential both the weekend times are met and the same carer attends.
There will be a need for the carer to support my wife with toileting needs of which she can communicate when this is required, she has a fully adapted ground floor annexe with wet room, wheelchair access, hoist, and fully adjustable bed to enable the successful applicant to provide the necessary care easily.  Extra hours may be available within the week in the future as my wife's needs increase, she uses a wheelchair so you must be physically able to push this.
Enhanced DBS Check applicable to this role.Paid holiday of 5.6 weeks per year (Pro-rata)
If you are already in this line of work on a self-employed basis then we would be happy to hear from you as well. Hourly rate to be discussed
Previous experience of caring for someone suffering with Huntington's Chorea (HD) Parkinsons, MS or other similar neurological illnesses would be ideal, along with a mature, calm, patient manner and a good sense of humour. Reliable and flexible with a desire to enable my wife to maintain her dignity and respect. My wife looks for routine and consistency so the person caring for her at weekends would be shown the same care plan that is adopted through the Monday to Friday schedule. My wife is keen for people to know that she is extremely grateful for the support she receives from that of immediate family members and that of a carer.
