We have a rare opportunity for a Full time Team Manager position in our Assessment service in First Response Children’s Duty in Leicestershire

If you are interested in the post read on………

About Us
At Leicestershire County Council we are committed to doing our very best for vulnerable children and families; working to make a positive impact on their lives so they can achieve their potential and flourish.

If you are interested in joining a strong and ambitious service with a group of permanent and experienced team managers and 2 long serving passionate service managers and see yourself as having the potential to be a high calibre manager then read on!

We are on a journey to be an inclusive Service where a culture to celebrate Equality, Diversity and Inclusion is embedded and Discrimination challenged at every level together as a Service and a Council.  We warmly welcome those from all cultures, ethnicities and beliefs - this diversity is vital to our journey and is fundamental to our values and enriches the service we offer our Children and Families.

We want all our staff to be inspired to go the extra mile. We are doing our best to create the sort of culture where practice excellence can flourish. We want to learn from what works, as much, if not more, than from when things go badly – we are ambitious to create a true ‘learning organisation. So…
  • Every year we run three annual conferences for staff to motivate and encourage them to be the best they can be.
  • Our ‘bottom line’ is that every month each team sets aside time for team learning.
  • Each month team managers attend a ‘learning set’.
  • We encourage reflective supervision and group supervision skills
  • Twice a year our senior leaders take a week out spending time with social workers observing practice and talking to young people and parents and carers about their experience of services.
  • We have given all HCPC registered workers three extra CPD days.
  • Our training offer to social workers is refreshed each year (and is highly valued by our staff).
  • We have a team dedicated to supporting practice excellence who work alongside practitioners offering training and coaching and mentoring to build practitioner confidence
  • We have an explicit practice framework providing a strong foundation for our work with families – setting out the way we ‘do business in Leicestershire’ and making our values and principles absolutely clear.
  • We have embedded the Signs of Safety approach across Social Care and our early help teams and all our teams are trained in this methodology. The approach is now used sub-regionally and there is a strong support network in place in the area.
  • Our Practice Development Group was established to develop the idea of ‘distributed leadership’ helping staff to collaborate on aspects of practice development.

If Leicestershire sounds like an interesting place to work – we would welcome your application.

Signs of Safety is the expected practice methodology and having knowledge of this and an understanding is desirable.

Staff workloads are manageable, and these continue to improve. Managers and staff all have regular monthly supervision. You will be responsible for providing leadership and management oversight to your team of social workers and accountable for how work is delivered.  You will use performance data and audit to drive improvement and ensure that interventions are timely and consistently good quality.   We want you to feel you are part of a wider management team and you are expected to attend regular wider management team meetings with the senior team and Assistant Director.

Specific Role: First Response service (based centrally at County Hall).

Managers work across our screening and assessment groups with small staff teams of up to six. Our Team Managers are supported by a Senior Practitioner in each team who work with social workers to ensure that incoming work is carefully considered and decision making robust and child focused. The Permanent Service Manager focuses on quality, standards and performance, alongside support for you as the Team Manager.

The Team Manager post is in one of our 5 Assessment Teams and benefits from a group of experienced and stable permanent managers who will support you in your induction into this post.

Who we are looking for
  • You will be an energetic and enthusiastic social work manager who is able to share your enthusiasm and passion for practice with those you manage.
  • You will have extensive experience of working in statutory children’s services and an in depth understanding of the interventions required to build safety and protect children from harm.
  • You will be able to evidence your skills and knowledge of creative, innovative and relationship-based social work and demonstrates your ability to lead and manage a skilled workforce.
  • We definitely want people with energy and people who have a ‘can- do’ attitude; we want people who will help us to build a real culture of reflection and learning and who can support our Social Workers to be the best that they can be. We want team players!
  • We want managers who already see themselves as practice leaders and understand the role they have in nurturing good practice and who are going to contribute to the next phase of our collective development.
  • You will have a strong and credible professional reputation.
  • You will be confident in your supervisory skills and over the years and ready to oversee and protected learning time for your team – ensuring they make the most of their CPD time
  • You have retained a strong interest in research and the evidence base for practice and are confident about how this can be used in practice
  • Ideally you will already be confident in the application of the Signs of Safety methodology but certainly in the value of relationship-based social work.

We hope this sounds like you!

Our salaries are competitive (£41,820 – £46,203 plus £3,000 market premium) but we know from our own staff that there are other reasons to come to Leicestershire. We hope you agree. We look forward to hearing from you
