The Leicestershire Registration Service has vacancies for peripatetic Deputy Registrars/Deputy Superintendent Registrars.  The service is responsible for the registration of births, deaths, marriages and civil partnerships across the Leicestershire area.  This interesting and varied role provides holiday and other cover for our Principal Registrars at our seven offices across Leicestershire.  The role is on a zero-hours contract basis, giving flexibility to the appointed individual in terms of working hours to fit with our commitments.  The primary responsibilities of the role include the registration of births, stillbirths and deaths, including issuing the associated certificates, to attest notices of marriage and civil partnership, and to register marriages and civil partnerships including performing ceremonies.  Other duties will include contributing to the smooth running of the service, for example joining the call-handling team, and administrative and finance tasks including reconciling cash.  The full list of duties and responsibilities is detailed below in the Job Description.
  • Educated to NVQ level 3 or equivalent in English and Maths or have experience of working within a role which requires a daily high standard of literacy and numeracy
  • Demonstrable experience in a responsible, challenging public facing role
  • Have worked in a role involving learning and interpreting large amounts of legislative detail
  • Have the ability to record and pass on information neatly and accurately, with attention to detail
  • Have a good working knowledge of a range of IT systems including Microsoft Office
  • Have the ability to converse at ease with customers, and provide advice in accurate spoken English
  • Be calm, courteous, diplomatic, tactful and discrete with the ability to take control in any situation
  • Be flexible and willing to work outside normal working hours when required including weekends and Bank Holidays.
