Job Purpose: To provide support in the preparation, cooking and serving of food and beverages plus related kitchen/catering/cleaning duties.
   
MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. To prepare the dining area which may include moving and setting up furniture, setting trolleys and the cleaning and dismantling of these as required.
2. To prepare the service area, hot cupboards and other equipment in the dining centre for the efficient and effective service of the meal.
3. To assist in the preparation, cooking and serving of food and beverages as defined by the immediate supervisor or line manager.
4. To serve food according to the style and type of operation as defined by the immediate supervisor or line manager.
5. To wash dishes, cutlery, tumblers, jugs, serving utensils, containers, tables and all other catering equipment in the dining centre.
6. To clean on a daily basis all catering area to standards laid down by the School Food Supervisor and in line with the Food Safety and Health and Safety Policy.
7. To undergo on and off the job training sessions as required both during term and out of term.
8. To inform the immediate supervisor or line manager of any defects in light or heavy equipment.
9. To inform the immediate supervisor or line manager of any premises not meeting Heath & Safety and /or Food Hygiene Regulations Standards.
10. To perform other related duties as required ensuring the dining area and the kitchen is in a clean and hygienic condition and that the food service is effective and efficient.
11. To undertake cash handling duties in relation to sales and banking procedures.
12. To assist in the carrying out of a deep clean of the kitchen/dining room on 3 specified out of term time cleaning days.
13. It may be necessary from time to time to work at another school kitchen within a reasonable geographical distance; any such changes would be subject to negotiation.
 
SPECIAL FACTORS:
When requested by senior management or other County Council designated Emergency Planning Officers, take an active role in emergency alerts or exercises.
Subject to the duration of the need, the special conditions given below apply:
(a) The nature of the work may involve the postholder carrying out work outside of normal working hours.
(b) The postholder may be required to attend, from time to time, training courses, conferences, seminars or other meetings as required by his/her own training needs and the needs of the service.
(c) Expenses will be paid in accordance with the Local Conditions of Service.
(d) This post is subject to a check being carried out at an Enhanced level by the Criminal Records Bureau regarding any previous criminal record.
