Placement Technical Specialist (Applications Developer)

Opportunities are now available for two university undergraduates who are currently studying an IT / Computing related degree course, to work within in the I&T (Applications Management) team as a Placement Technical Specialist.
   

You will work with a team of IT professionals supporting a range of business applications and technologies. You will also assist with the analysis of customer requirements and working practices in order to specify and select 3rd party systems & identify enhancements to existing systems.
    

You will assist in Developing/Configuring, testing, implementation, maintaining and documenting of both 3rd party computer software and in house developed software, using appropriate tools and techniques and conforming to ICT Services standards, quality requirements, budgets and timescale.
  
Your role will also:
• Ensure that all testing is thorough and comprehensive, preparing and using test plans, data and files as necessary to provide both quality assurance and an audit trail.
• Provide 2nd and 3rd line support to identify, determine root cause and resolve incidents and problems to meet agreed SLAs, liaise with the service desk & management as required to ensure effective communication.
• Identify and report on any difficulties encountered, especially where these will affect the timescale of committed deliverables, or the quality and reliability of systems developed.
• Ensure that IT Service Management policies and procedures are followed for example: Development Standards, Incident Resolution, Major Incident Processes, Problem Resolution, Change & Release Management. 
• Suggest improvements and changes where necessary.
• Provide and update operational, testing and service documentation (Including disaster recovery failover) in a fit for purpose manner.
• Work with suppliers, external contractors and other partners in a professional manner to ensure that business goals, project milestones and work packages are delivered as agreed.
                               
ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS:

General:

• An undergraduate currently studying an IT / Computing related degree course at university.
• Must have approval from the university to undertake a placement.

   
At Grade 5:
• NVQ level 2 (or equivalent) or achieved proficiency in SFIA skills at level 1
• ICT Experience with evidence of operation at practitioner level
• Of working with technical and professional staff
• Good analytical/problem solving skills; numerate
• Ability to communicate complex issues
• Able to demonstrate a flexible, innovative and positive approach
• Ability to work successfully and remain calm under pressure
