JOB PURPOSE:
Within the principle aims of preventing offending by children and young people, to work with young people who are at risk of offending or re-offending.
 


ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Education to NVQ 4 in a relevant field
  • Evidence of continuing professional development relevant to job role.
  • Significant experience of working with children and young people at risk of offending and re-offending.
  • Experience working in the criminal justice system.
  • Experience of working in a multi-agency setting.
  • Experience of partnership working.
  • Legislation in relation to the youth justice system.
  • Knowledge of youth justice and safe guarding legislation and the operation of the youth justice system.
  • Understanding of risk and protective factors including the principles of effective
  • knowledge of restorative approaches.
  • knowledge of child development and an awareness of different needs of children and young people.
  • Knowledge of relevant behaviour change practice to bring about change in anti-social behaviour and offending behaviour.
  • A good understanding of how to manage risk in the community and an understanding of and commitment to risk policies and procedures.
  • Understanding of the impact of crime and the responding to needs/protection of victims.
  • Ability to work as part of a team and in a multi-agency context, including the ability to operate in a variety of different settings with both clients and professionals including custody, community centres and home environments.
  • Good oral and written communication skills, including presenting information to professional partners; good recording, administrative and report writing skills.
  • Good organisational, planning skills and working to deadlines.
  • Proven ability to engage with people from a variety of backgrounds in particular, those children young people and families that are hard to reach.
  • Ability to work on own initiative and to prioritise work.
  • IT skills to include the ability to use Microsoft packages and databases/case management systems.
  • Good assessment skills and the ability to use assessment tools.
  • An understanding of, and commitment to equal opportunities and the ability to apply this to all situations.
  • Must be able to perform all duties and tasks with reasonable adjustments, where appropriate in accordance with the provisions of equality act 2010.
  • Possession of a valid driving license and access to a vehicle, however a reasonable adjustment will be considered for an applicant with a disability.
  • Ability to travel to and access a range of buildings including family homes.
  • Willingness and ability to work outside usual working hours and to be a 08.30h-17.00h duty system and the weekend work depending on operational needs including evening, Saturdays, bank holidays and concessionary days.
  • The post holder must be willing to undertake further training within the youth justice professional development framework.
