This is an exciting and innovative new post to help shape the recruitment, assessment and retention of foster across the East Midlands. The post holder will be part of a new post driving recruitment for unaccompanied asylum seeking young people. The post is for an 18 month project, the successful post holder will be appointed on a permanent basis and assigned to the project and then moving onto a management post in another part of our service upon completion.

 
JOB PURPOSE:

To manage and develop a team of social workers who are delivering a high-quality service for children and their families in accordance with legal requirements and departmental policies and procedures. This post is starting with the fostering assessment team, after which the management post will be within as required, determined by the service need.

 
ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS: 
  • Social work degree or equivalent, e.g. CQSW, DipSW (with specialism in children's services)
  • Substantial post qualification experience of working with children and families
  • Experience of statutory child care social work, including safeguarding, child protection and care proceedings
  • Experience of supervising staff or social work students
  • Knowledge of child care legislation and procedures, particularly in relation to child protection
  • Knowledge of the framework for the Assessment of Children in Need and their families
  • Knowledge of what constitutes a quality service
  • Knowledge of the principles of staff supervision, continuing professional development and performance management
  • To apply the principles of equal opportunities in service provision and employment, promoting anti-discriminatory practice
  • Working within policies and procedures, to set clear plans and objectives and evaluate outcomes
  • To analyse information to reach sound decisions, often under pressure and take responsibility for their outcome and regular reporting to the Service Manager
  • To implement change
  • To motivate staff to achieve high standards of performance and attendance, leading by example
  • To form and maintain constructive working relationships with colleagues in the Department and external partners
  • To communicate effectively with a wide range of people, using skills of negotiation and persuasion
  • Ability to quality assure within set standards
