Teacher of the Visually Impaired

This post is 0.4 FTE / 13 hours per week (Teachers T&C's)
Salary is TMS / UPS + SEN points appropriate to experience and qualifications; in line with Teachers T&C's.
 
JOB PURPOSE:

  • To have caseload responsibility for a number of pupils with visual impairment where appropriate.
  • To support families, settings, schools and FE colleges to include and make provisions for children and young people with a visual impairment, SEND.

     
ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS: 


  • Degree Level Qualification


  • Qualified Teacher Status with DfE number.
  • Evidence of further training and development in the field of special educational needs.
  • Appropriate specialist mandatory qualification- mandatory qualification for teachers of children and young people with vision impairment or equivalent
  • Experience working directly with pupils with a visual impairment and special educational needs and disabilities to improve outcomes and support inclusion.
  • Experience of involvement in team development and review.
  • Experience of working in partnership with settings, schools, other support services, statutory and voluntary agencies to improve outcomes for pupils with a visual impairment and SEND.
  • Knowledge of the local authority's statutory duties with regard to children and young people with SEND.
  • Knowledge of effective teaching and learning assessment, strategies and resources to support the attainment and inclusion of pupils with a visual impairment and SEND.
  • Knowledge of the needs of children and young people with a visual impairment and SEND and their families.
  • An understanding pf the responsibilities for safeguarding children and young people.
  • The ability to priorities and respond positively to potentially stressful and/or challenging situations.
  • Ability to manage own caseload effectively.
  • A commitment to improving outcomes for children and young people.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills - able to relate positively to students, parents and other professionals and establish effective working relationships within a range of educational settings.
  • An understanding of and commitment to equal opportunities and the ability to apply this to all situations.
  • Must be able to perform all duties and tasks with reasonable adjustment, where appropriate, in accordance with the provisions of the equality act 2010.
  • Ability to travel to temporary bases, such as schools, homes, touch-down bases etc.
