JOB PURPOSE:
 

To undertake parenting support and assessment programme with families experiencing significant difficulties, including kinship carers and foster carers. To undertake direct work with children and young people to meet their identified need.    
         
ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS:
• Level 3 childcare qualification (NNEB/NVQ3) or equivalent
• Experience of working with parents and children
• An understanding of social and environmental factors that have an effect on vulnerable, children, young people and families.
• Knowledge of Child Development
• Knowledge of Home Safety Issues
• Knowledge of Safeguarding children issues
• Knowledge of basic child behavioural techniques
• Knowledge of awareness of the cultural, racial, linguistic and religious background of children, young people and families.
• Knowledge of every Child Matters agenda
• Organisational and planning skills Ability to work creatively, Ability to communicate clearly with children, young people, parents, colleagues and other professionals
• Ability to work with a range of professionals and engage in multi-disciplinary work
• Able to engage parents and carers in preventative work.
• Able to assess impact of work in providing improved outcomes for children, young people and families.
• Time management skills and able to respond flexibly to changing requirements
• Able to apply principles of equal opportunities in practice
• Able to use information technology applications e.g. Microsoft Outlook, Word and database applications as relevant to the department.
• Able to produce clear, accurate records and reports Attendance - evidence of regular attendance at work
• Ability to travel to service points within Leicestershire County Council in a cost-efficient way
• Possession of a valid driving licence and access to a vehicle.
• Must be able to perform all duties and tasks with reasonable adjustment, where appropriate, in accordance with the provisions of the Disability Discrimination Act 1995.
• Able to work outside normal office hours including early mornings evenings and weekend (usually planned in advance)
