JOB PURPOSE:
To provide direct high-quality integrated family support and childcare services to children and young people as part of a family support/safeguarding plan, including kinship and foster carers, care leavers and unaccompanied asylum-seeking children where appropriate.
    
ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS:
• NVQ Level 3 in childcare qualification. (NNEB/NVQ3) or equivalent.
• Previous experience of caring for children or young people in a personal, voluntary or statutory capacity or experience of working to protect and improve the life changes of children or young people.
• Experience in a social care setting.
• Experience of working with service users from different cultural backgrounds.
• Basic knowledge of child development.
• An understanding of the rights of service users.
• Understanding of social and environmental factors that have an effect on vulnerable, children, young people and families.
• Written skills sufficient to produce clear and accurate records.
• Verbal and interpersonal skills to communicate clearly with children, young people, families, colleagues and professionals.
• Able to encourage independence.
• Ability to work in a multi-agency context.
• Ability to understand and carry out departmental instructions and procedures.
• Ability to work on own initiative as well as part of a team.
• Ability to advise and support families and young people of domestic and personal care tasks.
• Able to apply principles of equal opportunities in practice.
• Able to use information technology applications e.g. Microsoft Outlook, Word, and database applications as relevant to the department.
• Ability to work unsociable and flexible hours (Note: this would be a change to working arrangements for some existing TSWs and would not be achievable by all of them).
• Able to travel to designated locations.
• Current driving license and access to a car.
• Willing to undertake further training, attend meetings and supervision.
• Must have satisfactory Enhanced CRB disclosure.
