Senior Youth Worker

The Role will have a focus on leading on practice around Young Carers, SEND and the wider youth group work offer. With the principle aim of engaging young people in meaninful interventions, support them to achieve their outcomes and life opportunities whilst minimising the impact of their emotional wellbeing and any risks that they may pose . Whether this be themselves, others or offending or re-offending

The post holder will also support young people by developing, monitoring and evaluating group work interventions and the line managing the staff who undertake this work



  • Professional JNC recognised qualification in Youth work plus significant post qualification experience
  • Evidence of significant training or of further study that enhances the applicant's understanding of youth work and social exclusion
  • Experience of working with children, families in either case or group work situations
  • Experience of working in a mulit-agency setting
  • Experience of partnership working
  • Knowledge of youth work practice and safeguarding legislation
  • Understanding of risk and protective factors including the principles of effective practice
  • Knowledge of child development and an awareness of differing needs of children and young people
  • Knowledge of relevant behavioral change practice to bring about change in youth work and anti-social behavior
  • An understanding of emotional wellbeing and the methods and interventions which support young people
  • Ability to work as part of a team and in a multi-agency contact, including the ability to operate in a variety of different settings with both clients and professionals including community bases and home environments
  • To have good oral and written communication skills, including presenting information to professional partners, good recording, admin and report writing skills
  • Good organisational, planning and working to deadlines
  • Proven ability to work on own initiative and to prioritise work
  • A willingness to work flexibly to include working outside normal working hours to a duty system depending on operational needs this includes evenings, weekends and bank holidays and concessionary days as required
  • Must have a full valid driving licence with unrestricted use of a car along with relevant insurance documents however a reasonable adjustment will be considered for an applicant with a disability
  • Ability to travel to and access a range of buildings including family homes
  • The post holder must be willing
  • The post-holder may be required to attend from time to time other training courses, conferences, seminars or meetings as required by his/her own training needs and the needs of the service
