There is one permanent position available for a Senior Social Work Practitioner to work 37 hours per week in the Short Breaks Team. The team is based at Loxley House, within the Whole Life Disability Service.

The starting salary is £37,107 rising to £39,002 on first year anniversary, subject to satisfactory completion of a probation period (pro rata for part time).

The Short Breaks Service operates citywide and provides both planned and unplanned short breaks for disabled children and young people in order to promote growth, development and inclusion, as well as providing support for families and carers. The team includes Short Breaks Workers, Link Workers and Foster Carers.

The Senior Practitioner is responsible for quality assuring work undertaken by Short Breaks Workers within the team, whilst providing effective guidance and supervision via Case Discussions. They also provide guidance and supervision of Foster Carers, Link Workers and Sitters regarding disabled children who have complex health and behavioural needs.

The Senior Practitioner is expected to carry a full caseload and work with minimal supervision, while also covering for the Team Manager as necessary. The Senior Practitioner completes safeguarding risk assessments for pathway one and pathway two cases, and is also responsible for working in partnership with the wider department on all Safeguarding and Child Protection cases.

Essential Requirements

  1. Professional Social Worker Qualification (CQSW, CSS, DipSW), HCPC Registration and PQ Consolidation Award;

  2. Knowledge of Childcare legislation and Short Breaks Guidance and Short Breaks Threshold;

  3. Direct experience as a fieldwork practitioner in a child care setting, and experience of fostering;

  4. Experience of providing guidance and support to staff through the format of case discussions.
