Family in the Oadby area would like to engage a support worker on a self-employed basis to work with their son. Initially for 6 hours a week this may increase as the relationship develops. Days and times to be discussed.
The focus of the role is to support him to get out and about and participate in social/educational activities. It would be ideal if you had similar interests – going to the gym, being active, socialising. He would also like someone to assist him to relearn tasks such as reading and writing, using IT. Within his own home a minimum degree of support is needed with meal/drink preparation if main carer is not available.
Experience of working with someone with an acquired brain injury an advantage. Ability to advocate on his behalf without taking over as communication can be difficult for him.
Access to a vehicle essential along with the initiative to source appropriate activities/learning opportunities to participate in. You will need to flexible in your approach, whilst respecting the privacy of the individual and recognising the need for discretion/confidentiality always.
