Oak Field School is an Outstanding Special School (Ofsted 2018, 2014, 2011) for 168 pupils aged 3-19 with a wide range of learning and physical disabilities, including complex health needs and some challenging behaviours linked to learning needs.

We are seeking an efficient, effective and highly organised person with a strong background in successful school or similar financial administration and a positive, proactive approach to problem-solving; a broader interest in contributing towards improving outcomes for children and young people with SEN and/or disability and their families is desirable.

The focus of this post, which is overseen by the Office Manager, is to provide an efficient and effective financial administrative service to the school.

The role includes:
• Supporting the Headteacher and/or other members of the Senior Leadership Team in planning, setting, apportioning and evaluating the annual budget; this to include the preparation of final accounts and attending the F&GP Governors meeting when the budget is presented.
• Monitoring the school’s budget, ensuring prompt reconciliation of month end accounts and providing monthly budget monitoring and other financial reports for the Headteacher and Governors as requested, to include accurate annotated monthly statements and half-termly budget updates to budget holders
• Advising the Headteacher on the implications of issues with the budget, providing budgetary alternatives, and ensuring the school is compliant with statutory guidelines.
• Managing the effective administration of all financial procedures and computerised financial systems eg processing of orders/invoices, and virements as required, in collaboration with the Office Manager.
• Having responsibility for the preparation of all financial returns, and for the management of all financial procedures within school – see Job Description for further details of this.

The postholder is expected to support the development within the school of school finance-specific software, to be willing to undertake further training as appropriate, and to participate actively in the wider life of the school, including enrichment opportunities. The school understands that significant school-specific financial training might be needed in the first instance and will be supportive of this. In this case, however, we would be looking for a quick learner!

Core Hours are Mon-Fri 8am-4pm (3.30pm on 1 agreed day) with 30 minutes lunchbreak; we also expect the postholder to attend half-termly twilight Governor Finance and General Purposes (F&GP) meetings.
