Job Purpose:
To assist with the preparation, production and distribution of meals for the school as appropriate. To assist in ensuring that the service and standards provided meet the requirements of the School Food Support Service. To take responsibility for the operation of the school kitchen in the (short term) absence of the School Food Supervisor.
    
MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• To assist the School Food Supervisor with the preparation and cooking of food as required, including hospitality catering and special dietary needs.
• To undertake clearing, cleaning of premises, plant, equipment and the setting up and putting away of dining room furniture.
• To assist the School Food Supervisor with the provision of a quality service, to include transported meals where applicable.
• In the absence of the School Food Supervisor to liaise if necessary with Headteachers or representatives of the establishment with regard to the school’s requirements.
• To assist with promoting the service including the provision of hospitality catering.
• In the absence of the School Food Supervisor to ensure the security of the base kitchen including the associated stores and surrounds as appropriate.
• To report the breakdown of equipment, the need for structural repairs, Food Safety hazards, break-ins and accidents, to the School Food Supervisor or as directed.
• To carry out cashier and cash handling duties as appropriate.
• To undertake basic administration tasks under the direction of the School Food Supervisor.
• In the absence of the School Food Supervisor to communicate all relevant information to catering staff as directed.
• To attend training sessions as specified both during term time and out of term time.
• To attend and assist in the cleaning of the kitchen and surrounds of the 3 specified out of term time cleaning days.
                            
ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENT:
Qualifications:
• City & Guilds 706/1 and 706/2 or Vocational NVQ.
• Basic Food Hygiene Certificate.
Experience/Skills:
• Previous large-scale cooking experience.
• Operating commercial catering equipment.
• Reasonable level of numeracy and literacy skills.
• Experience of cooking in a school environment.
• Experience of supervision of employees.
