A Principal Tree and Woodland Manager is required to lead a busy specialist team which manages the County Council’s tree and woodland assets and provides a forestry/arboricultural advisory service for the County Council and external bodies. You will be the lead professional for the Council providing specialist advice to senior officers, members, colleagues, external bodies and the general public. You will be responsible for overseeing the responding to tree related enquiries and for managing the inspection programme relating to the County Council’s tree assets. You will be responsible for initiating, designing and developing the County Council’s tree planting initiatives and for sourcing all appropriate external grant income.   You will take the lead in promoting good practice across the forestry, arboricultural and other associated disciplines across the County Council.
  
You will be a technically knowledgeable, enthusiastic and self-motivated individual with an appropriate qualification in forestry and/or arboriculture (minimum level 5), accreditation appropriate to the role and with experience in a similar role.
  
In addition, you will need:
• Thorough working knowledge of arboricultural theory and practice including tree biology, pathology, bio-mechanics, tree botany, trees and the law, etc.
• Thorough working knowledge of woodland design and management techniques and experiencing in attracting all relevant funding sources.
• Proven ability and experience in leading a team of specialists.
• Knowledge and experience of organising tree surveying and inspection programmes
• Knowledge and experience of tree information/ asset management systems
• Excellent communication and diplomacy skills
• Excellent organisational skills
• An ability to plan, foresee problems and find effective solutions
• An ability to produce concise, detailed reports and produce policy documentation
