Oak Field School is a Special School for 168 pupils aged 3 – 19 with a wide range of learning difficulties (SLD, PMLD, ASD and CLDD) and/or physical disabilities, including complex health needs, sensory needs, and some challenging behaviours linked to disability. This is a permanent, full-time post, and we are seeking to appoint for an Autumn Term 2020 start, or earlier, as appropriate.
This post – which is a rare opportunity - would suit a teacher with a strongly evidenced interest in Disability Sport/SEN, committed to teaching, leading and developing PE, Sport and Physical Development in this sector. This could be an experienced teacher, a recently qualified teacher, or an NQT; please apply only if you have QTS, or will have achieved this by August 2020. Applications are welcome from Primary, Secondary or Special School teachers – we are an all-age school, and the post holder will teach classes across the school. A strong commitment to developing the curriculum for pupils with limited physical movement and communication is essential – we are committed to MATP (Motor Activity Training Programme) for those pupils for whom this is appropriate. The school is extremely well equipped, with a large and small hall, several outdoor spaces (including a sports field and 5-a-side MUGA), gym, soft play room and a Hydrotherapy pool; we are also within walking distance of an Olympic-sized swimming pool. PE and Sport equipment includes a rotating climbing wall, a mechanical horse, and an extensive range of adapted bikes, PE/sport/physical activity equipment, and multi-sensory resources.

We are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic, proactive and hard-working teacher who is an outstanding practitioner and is committed to improving outcomes for children and young people with SEN and/or disability and their families.
The successful candidate will be:

• Passionate about their role in improving outcomes and life chances for children and young people with disabilities.
An understanding of child development and experience of, or strongly evidenced interest in, teaching children and young people with SEN is essential - further training in aspects of Special Education will be provided, as appropriate. The school is organised in to 3 Phases (EYFS/KS1,
7-14, and 14-19), has particular strengths in PE and Sport, the Arts, PSHE and WREL, and a particular commitment to extra-curricular enrichment, including outdoor learning and adventure, and residential visits.
A commitment to Safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people is essential, and the successful applicant will be required to have an enhanced DBS check carried out prior to commencing employment. Please note that this post will include some cross-curricular teaching, especially in EYFS/KS1 and in the 6th Form. If there is any area of the PE curriculum in which the post holder has less expertise, they will be expected to undertake further training in this area.
