There is one permanent position available for a Level 1 Occupational Therapist within the Social Care Reablement team. The position is for 18.5 hours per week.

The starting salary for Level 1 is £24,174 rising to £25,951 on first year anniversary, subject to satisfactory completion of a probation period (pro-rata for part time hours)

Occupational Therapy is a specialist branch of Adult Social Care that assesses and reviews citizens who may have impairments to their mobility or motor skills. These may be long or short term, and require an assessment and care plan to be put in place, often with equipment prescribed.

The Social Care Reablement team work specifically with citizens to help them regain skills they have lost during a period of hospitalisation or ill health. The Occupational Therapist role in this team involves giving guidance to Care Workers, to support citizens to regain their independence.

Occupational Therapists are expected to ensure the delivery of appropriate services to adults and their families / carers, according to their assessed needs. This will include assessing the needs of vulnerable adults and their carers against the Department’s agreed eligibility criteria and in accordance with National Performance Indicators within set timescales, as well as the creation and implementation of culturally appropriate care plans that demonstrate flexibility and innovative use of resources.

Occupational Therapists are also responsible for delivering good outcomes for vulnerable adults through completing timely assessments, and developing and implementing effective care plans, including provision of equipment and structural adaptations that safeguard vulnerable adults. They should work within the legislative framework at all times, and in partnership with internal and external partners and agencies.

Occupational Therapists are expected to maintain and produce professional case records and reports which are structured, clear, evidence based and logical in accordance with the Department’s case recording standards and practice. In addition, they should make best use of the Department’s information systems, both using information from the relevant Registers and inputting new information as required in a timely and accurate manner.

Essential Requirements

  1. Diploma / Degree in Occupational Therapy and registration with the Health & Care Professions Council (HCPC);

  2. Ability to carry out community care assessments of need and develop care packages;

  3. Commitment to the Social Model of Disability;

  4. An understanding of the City Council’s Equality Scheme, a commitment to its implementation and application in employment and service delivery.
