This is a challenging 6 month fixed term post x 2 (37 hours pw) as a Legal Assistant working as part of a friendly and supportive team based in the Legal Services Department at County Hall. 
This role is to undertake the physical review and evaluation of a large volume of closed mixed legal case files and to assist Leicestershire County Council with the resolution and implementation of a number of important and wide-ranging issues presented including: provision of advice in relation to the correct review, retention and destruction periods in relation to each file and as to the indexing of data including personal information with specific reference to the GDPR.
Liaising as necessary with and seeking guidance from third parties and to assist in the creation and development of procedures to ensure that both physical and electronic records are kept securely in accordance with statutory and regulatory requirements. and to ensure that all records management work is performed in accordance with the Council’s policies and procedures, national policies and legislative and compliance requirements.
The performance of these tasks will require the post holder to have some fundamental legal knowledge with specific reference to both criminal and civil litigation and the GDPR as well as excellent administrative skills so as to ensure the effective completion of the task in hand as well as possessing strong people an interpersonal skills.
Additionally you will require a significant level of good quality administrative experience in the creation and management of archives and related processes, as well as related documentation and database management.  
  • A basic knowledge of criminal and civil litigation and the GDPR;  
  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail in relation document management and archive creation;
  • Ability to communicate with management and other;
  • Ability to plan and to set their own day to day tasks and to work to deadlines and timescales;
  • Ability to produce progress reports if so required;
  • An inter in and an ability to create systems and processes
  • Familiarity with databases, Word, Excel and similar computer software.
  • Confident interpersonal skills including telephone work and liaising with others;
  • Team working is essential as the candidate will be expected to work collaboratively with others and across other teams impacted by the duties to be performed;
  • An interest in creating procedures with which to help achieve the county Council’s specific objectives.
