Job Purpose
To support the tracking, identification and monitoring of children and young people who are at risk of not receiving the appropriate level of education in line with the local authority's statutory duties
To work across the service, department and with partners to ensure the educational needs of children and their families are clarified, and responses are coordinated
To provide information, signposting and advice to families, professionals and colleagues about referral pathways, sources of advice and information, etc
  • NVQ Level 3 or equivalent or demonstrable multi-agency experience evidenced against the headings below
  • Experience of working in an environment dealing with sensitive and confidential information
  • Experience of providing telephone support and advice to families, asking the right questions to get the information required
  • Experience of working in a multi-agency environment which involves working in collaboration and partnership with colleagues from a range of agencies and services
  • Experience of working in children or family services within a health, social care or education context. This may be in either a statutory provider setting, or voluntary/community sector
  • Experience of working within a performance framework which focuses on the outcomes achieved through activities
  • Experience of applying threshold criteria to individual cases, of challenging inconsistency, and ensuring that written procedures and guidelines are followed appropriately
  • A good understanding and working knowledge of the safeguarding agenda
  • A sound understanding of the range of services on offer in Leicestershire and through national programmes. This would include knowledge of core provision such as parenting and family support, as well as knowledge of for example community based initiatives or sources of support such as religious or community groups
  • An understanding of the importance of monitoring impact and outcomes for the families receiving early help services
  • Ability to use Microsoft Office applications including Word, PowerPoint, access and Excel
  • Able to use case recording systems such as Framework I, capita, Careworks etc for case noting, researching involvements, etc
  • Able to prioritise a demanding workload, taking a consistent approach to responding to children, young people, their families and other professionals
  • Able to follow procedures and guidelines and understand the importance of keeping up to date and accurate records
  • A skillfull communicator, able to convey important information to a range of different audiences which might include children and young people, parents, and professionals from range of agencies
  • Confident in own abilities and able to work with minimum supervision, but also able to recognise where support is needed
  • A flexible approach to work, providing cover for colleagues as required
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, able to work alongside colleagues from different agencies and services, using a focus of improving outcomes for children and young people to work through any differences or conflicts
  • An understanding of, and commitment to equal opportunities, and the ability to apply this to all situations
  • Must be able to perform all the duties and tasks of the job with reasonable adjustments, where appropriate, in accordance with the provisions of the Equality Act 2010
  • The post-holder must be willing to undertake further training within an early help professional development framework
