JOB PURPOSE:
• To ensure, in cooperation with colleagues within Children and Family Services, partner agencies, and children and their families that children are safeguarded, that plans for their future are aspirational, that they achieve permanency without delay, have good emotional and physical health and wellbeing and receive the best possible care and education to enable them to reach their potential and make a successful transition to adult life.
• To enable the local authority to achieve improved outcomes for children and young people by providing robust overview and challenge of plan for children in care and children subject to child protection conferences.
• To develop a high quality IRO service for children and their families in accordance with legal requirements and departmental policies and procedures.
 
ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS:
• Dip SW or CQSW/CSS
• HCPC registered
• Substantial post qualification experience
• Experience of chairing complex decision-making meetings
• Experience of handling complex issues relating to the provision of public service
• Experience of using IT applications to manage data
• Experience of using and/or knowledge of Signs of Safety methodology
• Knowledge and understanding of statutory functions and duties of a Social Care Department
• Knowledge of the legislation, guidance and procedures in their application to safeguarding and children in care
• Knowledge of child development
• Knowledge of recent research relating to the needs of children i care and/or child protection
• Ability to organise and analyse information
• Ability to prioritise competing demands and work to tight deadlines
• Be able to communicate effectively verbally and in writing including the preparation of reports for departmental and interagency bodies
