Following the lottery funded restoration of Highfields Park that was completed in 2018, we are pleased to have secured funding for a Head Gardener post at the park. This role is vital to oversee the maintenance of the new landscape and features which have been restored back to their original condition and improved for today's visitors.

The purpose of this role is to lead, direct and motivate teams of gardeners, community volunteers and acting as a mentor to Horticultural Apprentices. You will be responsible for ensuring effective day to day on site working using planning and monitoring techniques in accordance with the Council's policies and procedures, including the Health,Safety and Welfare Policy. with particular emphasis on improving quality, the public's perception, and encouraging visitor/ community use and enjoyment of Parks.
 
Essential Requirements
  • Experience of staff supervision and team leadership to achieve high quality standards and meet deadlines
  • Experience of Advanced Horticultural Operations and sports grounds maintenenace, fine turf, and experience in chemical application
  • Supervisory/staff management qualification or equivalent experience
  • First aid at Work Certificate or willing to undertake training
  • Must hold a valid driving licence.
