The starting salary is £46,608 (level 1) rising to £48,512 (level 2) on the first year anniversary, subject to satisfactory completion of a probation period.

Nottingham City Council are looking for an experienced, qualified and innovative Fleet Manager to become the management lead on all aspects of the Council's fleet service. The post holder will be responsible for the entire lifecycle of the vehicles including procurement, maintenance, operation and disposal. They will also take responsibility for the effective maintenance of vehicles owned by other organisations as part of the Council's range of large commercial contracts.
The post holder will provide a safe and effective maintenance provision (under the Council's Operator's Licence) to high profile front line services operated by the Council's City Services and Waste Management teams and other key internal and external customers. They will be responsible for the management of the vehicle and plant workshops, the fleet management section and the MOT testing stations.
The Fleet Manager will be required to actively seek commercial opportunities to create and develop profit potential, prepare business plans to develop the workshop and fleet business and participate in procurement bids and pricing strategies. They will be responsible for the management of all existing and new commercial contracts providing vehicle and/or plant maintenance.
The post holder will be expected to set the long-term strategy for Fleet Services, keeping up to date with advancing vehicle and maintenance technologies to ensure the Council's workshops and fleet are fit for purpose and future-proofed as well as providing value for money for the citizens of Nottingham. They will be required to lead on the exciting, newly emerging business areas in relation to Ultra-Low Emission Vehicles and technology, which is key to the delivery of the Council's Local Plan to Improve Air Quality in Nottingham.
  • Holder of a National Certificate of Professional Competence in Road Haulage
  • A minimum of two years' experience of managing a large workshop either in a public sector or commercial setting
  • In depth and up to date knowledge of fleet-related policy, procedures and all relevant legislation
  • Experience of delivering organisational and cultural change and of shaping the delivery of services to meet the needs of customers and communities
  • Experience of implementing and delivering new vehicle maintenance contracts within a workshop environment
