Leicestershire County Council serves over 600,000 Leicestershire residents.  We manage a diverse range of public services in areas such as Education, Waste, Roads, Environmental Planning and Social Care, as well as forming key partnerships with both public and private organisations to better serve the people of Leicestershire.
 
The 10 - 12 month placement is within our Strategic Finance and Assurance team.  We provide invaluable financial advice and support to our front line services and corporate support teams, playing a key role in the success of the authority.
 
We are looking for a confident and motivated student with an excellent understanding of finance, strong communication skills and a desire to learn.  You will be exposed to the unique diversity of public sector finance and gain the experience of working with our Internal Audit, Investment Management and Insurance teams.
 
During your placement you will have built on your knowledge of transactional, management and financial accounting, have a greater understanding of the workings of a large organisation, and personally develop skills that will prove valuable in a career in finance.
 
 Duties & Responsibilities
  • Financial analysis, forecasting and control
  • Preparation of financial statements
  • Production, manipulation and presentation of information across a range of services areas
  • Budget setting for multi-million pound service areas
 
Key Skills & Competencies
  • Currently studying a finance-related degree and expected to achieve a minimum of 2:1
  • Competent and skilled use of Microsoft Excel
  • Strong verbal and written communication
  • Excellent ability to analyse and manipulate data
  • Good organisational skills to prioritise and take ownership of own work
  • Demonstrate a flexible approach to meet changing demands
  • Motivated to seek opportunities for continuous improvement
