Please Note: This is a secondment opportunity for 12 months

  • To advise and support parents and professionals in meeting the special educational needs of early years children (birth to reception age).
  • To provide advice, support and guidance to private, voluntary independent providers in order to identify the special educational needs of children and develop appropriate initiatives in order to meet their needs.
  • To develop high quality inclusive provision across the childcare sector
  • To implement strategies to enable providers to embed the principles of the SEND code of practice into their practice in order to support children with SEND
  • To implement strategies to enable providers to embed the principles of the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) into their practice in their work with children with SEND
  • To offer guidance and support to the settings across the 0-5 sector to ensure children at risk of exclusion of a result of their SEND needs are supported in their provision
  • Promote the Early Help programme and work closely with the Local Authority Designated Officers for the safeguarding team as directed
  • To work collaboratively with other internal local authority and external partners and providers to improve outcomes for children with SEND
  • Qualified Teacher Status
  • Experience of working with early years SEND children and families
  • Experience of working with other agencies to support children with SEND
  • Outstanding early years practice in the early years sector or a school.
  • Experience of observing and evaluating the quality learning and providing feedback to staff.
  • Experience of early years improvement processes.
  • Excellent knowledge and understanding of the early years SEND code of practice
  • Excellent understanding of learning relating to the EYFS phase.
  • A working knowledge of the EYFS and its key principles and objectives.
  • An understanding of data analysis and its uses.
  • Good communication skills, both written and oral.
  • Good interpersonal skills with the ability to enthuse and motivate others and develop effective partnerships.
  • Ability to develop and maintain good working relationships and professional partnerships.
  • To be assertive, confident and sensitive to the needs of others.
  • To be able to cope with pressure.
  • To self organise and meet deadlines.
  • To have a commitment to education and lifelong learning.
  • Confident use of information and communication technology (ICT).
