JOB PURPOSE
   * To Provide a package of Portage home visits to very young children and their parents/carers
   * To keep records as required by the Portage Manager
   * To promote the Education and development of children under 5 years with special educational needs
   * To implement the programme of support devised by the specialist SEND advisor 
                    
ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Training on a course for portage Home Visitors recognised by the National Portage Association or willingness to undertake the training
  • To hold a level 3 in childcare or equivalent
  • Substantial experience with working families and children who have SEND
  • Experience of having worked with children under 5
  • Knowledge of child development up to the age of 5
  • Knowledge of the SEND code of practice and Early Years Foundation Stage
  • Good personal organisational skills e.g. time management
  • Ability to relate to parents/carers who may be under considerable stress
  • The ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing, coupled with good listening skills
  • Evidence of being able to work collaboratively within a team with the ability to generate enthusiasm
  • The ability to take responsibility for meeting deadlines adjusting task and priorities as situations demand
  • To have a flexible approach to working including out-of-hours, and willingness to travel to various locations
  • Understanding and commitment to, Equality and Diversity and the ability to apply this to strategic work and day-to-day situations
  • Must be able to perform all duties and tasks with reasonable adjustment, where appropriate, in accordance with the provisions of the Equality Act 2010
