The Watch | Café 2 CIC (Community Interest Company) is a brand new venture seeking to support adults with learning disabilities to develop skills for supported employment in a café or similar setting. The café is due to open in the Autumn, and is based inside the Central Police Station at Byron House on Maid Marian Way. This is a really exciting opportunity!
We are seeking 2 proactive, enthusiastic, and committed trainers/supervisors with a strong background or interest in the field of Learning Disability. Some experience of working with children or adults with learning disabilities, and/or experience in another relevant sector such as Youth Work, public service, or the café/food retail industry would be an advantage. Employment will be in partnership with Oak Field School, which has considerable experience in the field of work-related learning, and is strongly committed to promoting work skills, self-confidence and independence. Currently, Oak Field runs its own café at school, which is open to the public 3 mornings a week, but Café 2 is an entirely new venture, funded separately, and with a completely different Board of Directors.
What does the role involve? Under the direction of the CIC Manager, the key duties are to ensure the effective operation of the café and to train and supervise the trainees. This will include keyholder responsibilities, training and supervising adults with learning disabilities in high quality food and beverage preparation and customer care, stock management, and till reconciliation – this is a cashless café. Through a positive approach, and encouraging and supporting the trainees, the trainers/supervisors will promote supported employment, internships and work-related activities for adults with learning disabilities – The Watch | Café 2 CIC hopes to expand from this in to other targeted areas. The post will include occasional PA support (personal care and hygiene) for the trainees, and liaison with their supporters, as appropriate. For further details, please see the job description.
The successful candidates will be expected to be able both to use their own initiative, and to promote teamwork. Barista training will be offered, as will training in H+S, Basic Food Hygiene, Safeguarding/Protection of Vulnerable Adults, First Aid and Fire Awareness Training.
Working hours for this post (to be reviewed after 6 months) are:
Post 1: 7.15am – 12.45 (5.5 hrs/day), Mon-Fri, 52 weeks
Post 2: 11.30am - 4pm (4.5 hrs/day), Mon-Fri, 52 weeks
