About the job
This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced business tourism specialist to shape and lead a business tourism service for Leicester & Leicestershire. This senior position, working collaboratively with our industry partners, will help to realise the full economic potential of the business tourism sector by delivering proactive programmes of marketing and sales to bring conferences and business events to the area. You’ll be the key contact for both our local suppliers and national and international buyers, ensuring incoming enquiries for meetings, incentives, conferences and exhibitions are processed to win business.
You’ll work as part of a wider team, complementing the work of the Strategic Tourism Manager and Place Marketing Team.
Your role
You’ll work closely with our local industry partners to create an effective and dynamic business tourism community, co-ordinating a range of activities to raise the profile of Leicester & Leicestershire as a location for business events both nationally and internationally. You’ll also work actively with a range of public sector partners and stakeholders, demonstrating how performance and financial targets for the service are being met.
You’ll be required to manage dedicated support staff to ensure they meet both service requirements and the needs of suppliers and external buyers to the highest quality standards. You’ll also be responsible for project management of trade shows, sales missions, exhibitions and events and familiarisation visits for trade media and buyers to encourage conversion rates and showcase our business tourism offer.
You’ll undertake a wide range of marketing activity to generate new business, including the development and maintenance of the business tourism website as an effective showcase for the local offer.
What you’ll need
You’ll have a pro-active approach to developing new business which will include effective bid writing skills. You’ll have experience of working in a senior role in the business tourism industry in a marketing, hotel, meeting venue or tourism environment. You’ll be familiar with the Meetings, Incentives, Conferences and Exhibitions (MICE) industry and be able to demonstrate both your knowledge and expertise in the sector.
You’ll have excellent communication skills, including the ability to prepare and present strong bid propositions. Your project management skills will be exceptional and you’ll be an effective line manager to support staff, bringing out their potential and consistently delivering service excellence.
You must be able to travel to, and work away from, various locations/venues.
