Autism Outreach Schools Practitioner's play a vital role supporting the AOT Teachers across our Leicestershire Schools. The Autism Outreach Team is expanding with additional teachers and practitioners, ensuring that teachers and practitioners have fewer schools that they need to support, therefore enhancing their ability to get into schools earlier, supporting educational based colleagues with their understanding and interpretation of ASD issues and challenges presented within the school.

The day to day role of the Schools Based Practitioners include offering direct support to school staff, peers and the children themselves but always from the notion of developing the skills of the school based staff. The position is for 39 weeks of the year paid pro-rata throughout the whole year.  The successful candidates will be experienced and will be able to interpret challenges, offer advice to colleagues, potentially spend time with young people assisting them with their understanding and be dynamic enough to manage their own caseload, diary and roles and responsibilites across an area of Leicestershire. They will also play a part within an incredible team of professionals dedicated to helping our wonderful young people and their families across our Leicestershire schools.

This position requires staff to go in and out of schools while being based out of County Hall, Glenfield but to work both closely with colleagues and on your own. The pay advertised is for the full year but the position is for 39 weeks of the year with pay paid over the 52 weeks.



ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • NVQ 3 level qualification or equivalent in a study related to the role
  • Willingnes to undertake further qualifications & training as necessary
  • Significant experience of working with children, young people & families within the context of educational settings
  • Experience & understanding of meeting the needs of children & young people with SEND & their families
  • Experience of inter-agency working
  • Basic awareness of child development & teaching & learning
  • Knowledge of some strategies to establish purposeful learning
  • Understanding of the responsibilities held by staff for safeguarding children & young people
  • Knowledge of the SEND Code of Practice
  • Knowledge of Information Management & Data Protection Legislation
  • The ability to converse at ease with customers & provide advice
  • The ability to communicate effectively both orally & in writing with a variety of audiences
  • Excellent interpersonal skills & able to relate positively & establish effective working relationships with families, colleagues & other professionals
  • Ability to manage a caseload effectively, prioritise work & demonstrate effective time management
  • Ability & aptitude to share knowledge, skills & understanding with colleagues, pupils, parents/carers & school staff
  • Ability to engage colleagues, pupils & school staff in participative processes & a commitment to challenge practice in order to enhance the quality of provision for children & young people with SEND
  • Ability to find positive solutions to issues & motivate others
  • Ability to travel to temporary bases, such as schools, Touch down bases etc
