Assistant Transport Planner

The activities of the post will include:
• Assisting with formulating transportation policy advice to inform the development of policies and strategies prepared by external partners, including the Local Enterprise Partnership, Midlands Connect and District Councils.
• Assisting with the development, implementation and periodic review of the County Council's own policies, strategies and plans.
• Assisting with the development and project management (including budgetary) of transport studies.
• Supporting work to secure funding to deliver transport measures, including assisting with the provision of transport policy input to funding bids.
• Helping to provide policy advice and support to the ongoing development and delivery of transport measures (work undertaken by others), including through the detailed design process and any necessary statutory procedures.
• Assist with the gathering of evidence from a wide range of sources to inform the County Council's transport policies and strategies.    
             
ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS:
• HNC/HND/NVQ4 in a relevant qualification (e.g. Civil Engineering, Transportation or Planning)
or
• Equivalent demonstrable work experience including in one or more of transport strategy, policy and plan development; traffic management; or the assessment of the impacts of new development.
EXPERIENCE:
Either direct involvement with:
• the development and/or delivery of transport strategies, policies and plans, and associated evidence
OR
• the development and/or delivery of wider policies, strategies and plans, including (for example) to support housing and economic growth
• Analysis of complex data, e.g. to inform strategy and policy development or to inform the understanding of a development's transport impacts
• Interpreting and writing technical and non-technical reports and providing technical advice to a range of stakeholders, including senior management and Elected Members
• Helping to manage and monitor budgets
• Working with internal and external partners to provide advice, support and influence development and delivery of transport measures
