Oak Field School is seeking to appoint a 14-19 Phase Leader with responsibility for English across the school. Oak Field is a Special School for 168 pupils aged 3 – 19 with a wide range of learning difficulties (SLD, PMLD, ASD and CLDD) and/or physical disabilities, including complex health needs, sensory needs, and some challenging behaviours linked to disability. This is a permanent, full-time post, to start in Autumn Term 2019.

We have high expectations of the children, young people and ourselves, and we appreciate and celebrate our achievements fully. With the school deemed Outstanding by Ofsted in the last 3 inspections (most recently in February 2018), we are determined that the school’s reputation is carried forward and enhanced. The school is organised in 3 Phases (EYFS/KS1, 7-14, and 14-19), has particular strengths in the Arts, Sport, PSHE and WREL, and a particular commitment to extra-curricular enrichment, including residential visits.
We are seeking a 14-19 Phase Leader who is dynamic, caring and passionate about making a difference to the educational and wider lives of the children and young people of Nottingham.

The school is looking for a 14-19 Phase Leader who:
  • will be an outstanding leader with proven experience of raising aspirations, expectations and attainment, especially for pupils aged 14-19
  • is committed to developing personalised learning, curriculum and assessment for children and young people with SLD/PMLD/ASD/CLDD, using a wide range of teaching strategies, resources and assessment tools.
  • is committed to developing subject leadership in English across the school
  • is able to demonstrate an excellent understanding of how children and young people learn and develop, and of the pastoral role in this context.
  • is highly motivated, hard-working, flexible and resilient, and committed to developing their own and others’ CPD
  • is proactive, creative, enthusiastic, innovative and collaborative in their approach
  • is able to demonstrate excellent initiative and organisational skills
  • is a strategic thinker and outstanding practitioner with a clear focus on continuous improvement
  • is committed to partnership working, both within school and with outside agencies.
  • is passionate about their role in improving the outcomes and life chances for children and young people with disabilities, including beyond school
The 14-19 Phase Leader will work in close partnership with the appropriate Deputy Head with overall responsibility for the Phase, and with the 7-14 Phase Leader, who has responsibility for developing Maths, Science and Computing across the school. It is expected that s/he will have an 80-90% teaching timetable.
A commitment to Safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people is essential, and the successful applicant will be required to have an enhanced DBS check carried out prior to commencing employment.
